Fire Suppression Systems for Data Centers

Data centers, AI infrastructure, and critical digital infrastructure demand high uptime, low consequence on activation, documented performance, and well-considered system selection.

When European regulations are not sufficient

European regulations do not always cover all modern data centre scenarios adequately. In those cases we apply up-to-date international standards — such as FM Global Data Sheet 5-32 — combined with other recognised best practice where appropriate.

The chosen regulatory framework is justified and documented based on the facility and its risk profile.

Test standards lag behind technology

Test protocols for alternative systems, particularly water mist, can be limiting at greater ceiling heights. Data halls are being built taller today than many test protocols have historically covered.

Rør System AS participates in development together with clients and suppliers to design and protect data halls with ceiling heights up to 12 m, as close to a performance-based design approach as possible. This is expertise under development and ongoing work — not a finalised, approved standard solution.

What we can contribute

  • Risk and facility analysis for data halls
  • Regulatory strategy when European standards fall short
  • Assessment of sprinkler, water mist and gas against actual risk
  • Commissioning and integration with detection and control systems
